We try to use RavenLite as helper app through calling shell:

open -a RavenLite.app "/Volumes/Transfer/BatData/bat/SD_Karte s21_01_1005/f0079.wav" : nothing happens. Drag and drop does not work either.

When calling
open -a RavenPro1.4.app "/Volumes/Transfer/BatData/bat/SD_Karte s21_01_1005/f0079.wav" : the file opens nicely

Works identical in Raven Pro 1.5.

Looks like a bug to me?

Regards

Martin

Hi Martin,

Here are examples illustrating how to call Raven Lite through a shell.

Mac OS X
open -a /Applications/Raven\ Lite\ 2.0\ build\ 35/RavenLite.app/ --args ~/Desktop/2000Hz.aif -viewPreset:Spectrogram\ Only

Windows
cd "%USERPROFILE%\Raven Lite 2.0"
RavenLite.exe --args ".\Examples\2000Hz.aif" -viewPreset:"Spectrogram Only"

Note two optional input parameters
1. A sound file to be opened when Raven Lite starts
2. A window preset to be applied to the sound view

Thanks for the clarifications Mike, we'll try that one - hopefully the opening of wavlist.txt files is supported too...

Regards

Martin

Hi Martin,

What are "wavlist.txt files"? Raven list files, as in "File > Save As List File"?

Hi Martin,

Yes, you can substitute a Raven list file path for the the sound file path. Here's an example for Windows:

cd "%USERPROFILE%\Raven Lite 2.0"
RavenLite.exe --args ".\Examples\listfile.txt" -viewPreset:"Spectrogram Only"

Dear Mike

we're still working on calling Raven (Lite or Pro) from our Software BatScope (on Mac):

It looks like the command used to open a Raven list file path as substitute for the the sound file path in Raven Pro 1.5 / Raven Lite 2.0 is (in BASH syntax):

/usr/bin/env open -a '/Applications/Raven Lite 2.0/RavenLite.app' --args wavfilelist.txt '-viewpreset:"Spectrogram Only"'

This works only the first time, that the call is executed. If Raven is already open, and another 'wavfilelist.txt' is sent, Raven is coming to the foreground but the files are not opened.

If we use the corresponding syntax for Raven Pro 1.4 / Raven Lite 1.0, repeated opening of 'wavfilelist.txt' works without a problem.

/usr/bin/env open -a '/Applications/Raven Lite 2.0/RavenLite.app' wavfilelist.txt

How do we have to adapt the syntax in the case Raven Pro 1.5 / Raven Lite 2.0 is already open?

Thanks for your help and best regards

Martin

Hi Martin,

As far as I know, it is not possible to open multiple list files into a single instance of Raven Lite 2.0 or Raven Pro 1.5 using Terminal. However, it is possible to open multiple list files into multiple instances of Raven Lite 2.0 or Raven Pro 1.5 using Terminal. All you have to do is substitute "open -n" for "open -a". If you would like to open multiple instances of Raven Pro 1.4 from terminal, substitute "open -na" instead.

And for Forum members who have no idea what we are talking about, we are discussing opening Raven from the command line or a shell script. Here is an example using Raven Lite in Windows and in Mac OS X.

Windows Command Prompt (in Windows)
Code:
> cd "%USERPROFILE%\Raven Lite 2.0"
> RavenLite.exe --args ".\Examples\2000Hz.aif" -viewPreset:"Spectrogram Only"
Terminal (in Mac OS X):
Code:
$ open -n '/Applications/Raven Lite 2.0/RavenLite.app' --args './Examples/2000Hz.aif' -viewPreset:"Spectrogram Only"

where
  • ">" is the command prompt
  • "$" is the command prompt
  • "--args" lets Raven Lite know that you are going to provide optional input parameters
  • "2000Hz.aif" is one of the audio files that you can find in the "Examples" folder in Raven Lite. You could also specify a list file instead. "List files" are described starting on page 195 of the Manual.
  • "Spectrogram Only" is a custom sound window preset I made. Sound window presets are discussed on pages 71 - 74 of the Manual.

-Mike

Yeah, that's how far we figured it out too. Thanks Mike. To bad, because in Raven 1.4 it was possible to achieve that, to compare two or more files in the same window. 'Backstep' there. Could you encourage to include the functionality again?
Regards, Martin
